Yes, I’m Now a MagPie on Twitter

UPDATE:  I HAVE DEACTIVATED MY MAGPIE ACCOUNT AND USED THE MONEY EARNED TO SERVE A FEW CHARITABLE ADS OF MY OWN…including the following link:

However, I will still continue to try new platforms and tools on the interwebs on my terms.

When I first heard about the concept of advertising on Twitter, I immediately discounted the idea.  I am on Twitter for the conversation, the shared resources, and cross-promotion of the people and ideas that I believe in.  I have gotten hired, connected with PR reps, and established business partnerships all with the help of Twitter.

So after I went to the Magpie website, input my Twitter name and waited a few second, that potential amount I could make from being a Magpie was staggering.  I do have a paid job and it pays well.  However, my husband’s company just laid off 25% of their work force and he’s got half the work load he did a few months ago.  I see that as the writing on the wall.

Since I use Twitter to promote those people and ideas I’m passionate about and my own projects, why not be a Magpie and allow advertisements on my Twitter stream?  I don’t really see the difference between that and putting affiliate text link ads in my blog posts.

I’ve talked to a couple of my blogging friends who I always look to when I’m debating a decision like this and guess what.  They’re a bit stressed about the economy now too.  In fact, they’re all going to give Magpie a whirl too.

I know this is going to create some controversy but at the same time I hope you take my reasons into consideration.

If you decide to try Magpie too, please let me know your thoughts in the comments here.

Chirp, chirp!
