Business Coaching by the Imagination Movers?
Photo Courtesy of Disney Channel MediaYes, I am serious.
As most parents know, our kids often times will get completely obsessed with a television show. It will become the only show they want to watch and no matter how many times they see the same episode, their rapt attention never wavers.
These days, I have to say I am equally enthralled with my son's choice, The Imagination Movers. These guys work together to figure things out and they all contribute ideas to find a solution to whatever "idea emergency" they are facing that day.
Call me a total cheeseball, but I think these guys are on to something.
Everytime they play that song, "Calling All Movers", I start tapping my feet and feel the sudden urge to make things happen. You see, The Imagination Movers are doing what strategists, creative teams, and thought leaders do every day at their white boards. They collaborate and work together to find solutions for other people.
The chorus to this particular song is:
"Reach High. Think Big. Work Hard. Have Fun."
When people ask me about how I do it all, sometimes it's hard to explain. But after listening to this song a gazillion times on Playhouse Disney, I realized that the Imagination Movers truly put it in a nutshell.
- Reach High: The sky truly is the limit. Now that the world is so wired, people can do so much more virtually than they ever could before. Sure, cherry picking is good for the ego, but go out of your comfort zone and I promise you'll achieve more than you could imagine.
- Think Big: If you've got an idea brewing don't just think about how it can add value to the solution you'd like to offer potential clients, buyers, etc. Think about who in your network you can bring in to help make the idea happen and who could benefit from partnering with you. How can you make the idea scalable?
- Work Hard: This is obviously a no-brainer. You get out of any project or initiative what you put in. I don't watch as much TV anymore. (Suffice it to say I know more about what's going on in the Imagination Movers' world than the scandals on Wisteria Lane these days). Obviously, when you're passionate about what you do, you tend to work much harder.
- Have Fun: To me, this could be the most important. Have a sense of humor. If you're a goofball like me, let it show. Laugh at yourself. Do things with enthusiasm. Smile when you talk to people on the phone. Having fun is contagious, who doesn't want to have fun?
I'm willing to bet that if the Imagination Movers started a company and set the lyrics to this song, Calling All Movers, as their core values, they'd be one hugely successful enterprise. Although in a way, they already have. Case in point: They've completely sold out of their Imagination Movers child's costume this year. Price tag? $100.

My four-year-old recently discovered the "madji-nashun movers" and quite likes it. I was just telling my husband the other day that I like the creative and cooperative problem-solving approach that it teaches. His other current obsession is "The Upside-Down Show",. which, tragically, has been cancelled. We've seen all 12 episodes about 20 times each, but he just can't get enough of it. And, to be honest, it's won me over, too. It's all about imagination and pretend-play. And it's quite clever and creative. If you've never seen it, you should check it out. :)

My 3yo loves Imagination Movers! His favorite song is Brainstormin'. Took me a while to figure out what he was singing until I finally sat through a whole show. Thoughtful and inspiring post. I promise to pay more attention to IM from now on ... who knows what other tidbits await?!
My 3yo can't get enough of them. She loves helping me with idea emergencies around the house.

ok I have to share this - my 5-yr-old daughter and I think Rich is really cute
more importantly, my daughter told me she was brainstorming the other day - when I asked her where she learned that work, she said from the Imagination Movers!
zenmom,
My 5 year old also loves Imagination Movers and Upside Down Show. Even though he hasn't seen an UDS episode in months (since Noggin banished it to the midnight slot), he still talks about pushing buttons on his remote. (Good way to get them to stop walking too far ahead, also. Tell them that you just pressed "pause.")
This doesn't help the kids, but you should look up "The Umbilical Brothers." That's Shaun and David's "adult" act. There are a lot of elements that are hilarious, but aren't appropriate for kids. (Also, a lot of elements that will be recognized by UDS fans.) There are many videos of their act on YouTube.
