Kids and Gadgets: Is the Obsession Hereditary?
After I became a mom, I felt like I needed to have a mom hobby. Scrapbooking, knitting, and stamping were all given a go, but I couldn't stick with them and frankly, my creations were less than stellar. My husband is an avid mountain biker and I have to admit that I was always a little jealous that I didn't have something of my own that I was passionate about.
I told my husband as much and he looked at me and said:
"Are you kidding? You're a gadget freak! That's your hobby."
Umm, gee, where had I been? I guess I thought I needed something more crafty and domestic to be my hobby. He's so right though. I swoon over gadgets. They're an obsession. The only obstacle that keeps me from buying every single one is my bank account balance. But instead of spending the money to "try" at hobbies that don't grab me, I save up to buy the gadgets that I covet so much. My favorites? The Kindle
As my son gets older, he's only three now, I'm starting to realize that he shares my love of gadgets too. While I try to keep his screen time down, I've been pretty impressed with some of the products out there. Not just because of the tremendous amount of fun my son has, but the educational value they add, too.
He's always wanted to play around with my Apple iPod Touch
My three year old also loves playing on my husband's and my laptops. You can imagine that when we do let him, it makes us a little nervous. Leapfrog sent us the ClickStart
Another Leapfrog product we both like is the new LeapFrog® Tag Reading System
For those that like the idea of the Tag but are shying away from the price, you should try the Poingo Reading System
Finally, I have to give props to the LeapFrog® Leapster®
I enjoy sharing my love of gadgets with my son and do wonder if it's hereditary or just merely because he sees my gadgets all the time. Either way, I'm glad that there are so many options.
What's your favorite gadget? What are your kids' favorite gadgets?

It is somewhat, but it definitely rubs off from spouses! And the kids . . . . oh yeah . . . they get it too!!

My kid *LOVES* my iPhone. She's 3 and she uses it as well as I do!
I love my iPhone as well. My 9 year old borrows it so much I had to setup a photo gallery dedicated to all the pictures she takes with it.
My husband is a computer guy so my girls both have computers (they are 2 and 4). Granted, the computers are old and slow but they suit the purpose. We love the FisherPrice Easy Link, which lets the girls choose their websites based on the character they plug in. They both love my camera and my 4 year old has a VTECH KiddieZoom which my 2 year old loves, too (She's getting a FP camera for Christmas, it doesn't have games on it like the VTECH).
I would love a Kindle... But I'm such a paper freak I'm afraid I might miss touching actual pages. With its price tag it's out of my budget right now.

I'm addicted to my BlackBerry. I would love a Kindle, but it's not in the budget right now. My Nikon is also a "gadget" I can't do without.
I actually have a giveaway on my blog right now where every reader gets $10 worth of free MobiStories downloads. It looks like that link is going to show up for me in CommentLuv when I leave this comment, so check it out and get some free books for your son. :-)

My 4yr old loves my Nokia phone. Whenever he has the chance he will take it and snap goofy pictures of himself. The 2yr old loves to use it to send MMS pictures of himself to his dad.
The other digital item that they are fighting over is the PC where they love to play the online games.
