15 Days of Marketing Day Two: Building Your Marketing Resume
A lot of people have a traditional marketing background and are translating that into social media and word of mouth marketing. For others who might not have a related degree or formal professional marketing, you can still take steps to build your marketing resume. I'm going to outline a few ways to do that in today's post.
The moral of the story? Just because you don't have a degree in marketing or a marketing resume doesn't mean you can't school yourself. Just be persistent, consistent, and passionate. All three are equally important. Don't sign on with a marketing network and agree to review coffee if you're solely a tea drinker. On the same token do, definitely, agree to review a state-of-the-art printer if you run your business from home. Then talk about it. Invite your blog readers to ask questions. Keep the conversation going. Trust me, someone will notice.
YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Pick one or two of the points above and take action. Do it today. Then share with us what you did and why you're excited about it.
- Sign-up for a few marketing networks. There are lots of networks geared toward moms: Mom Central and Mom Select. Another geared toward savvy women: One2One Network. And a couple that have something for everyone: Communispace and BzzAgent. Marketing networks provide a way for their clients' brands to reach a target audience using word of mouth marketing. They also allow for more in-depth feedback on products by fostering a community around their brands.
- Become an Expert for a social shopping site like Wishpot (where I'm Chief Mom Officer). Right now Wishpot is accepting wedding and baby experts. More channels including Deals, Handmade, and Fashion are coming soon.
- Apply for a contributor spot on a blog network like Blissfully Domestic, Type-A Mom, or Blogher (and by the way, Dads are welcome at Blogher too!)
- If appropriate for your niche, sign up for an account at NewsVine and write on topics to establish yourself as an expert and citizen journalist.

This is great!
