Drink More Water: Day 6 of 15 Days of New Years Resolutions
I don't know what it is. Give me a glass of lemonade...I'll finish it within minutes. A big cup of coffee? Same thing. But for some reason the more glasses of water I try to drink the more half full glasses of water I end up finding all over the house later.
There are so many benefits to drinking water, it's ridiculous really. In an ideal world, I would drink water instead of anything else. Some of the reasons I personally want to drink more water are:
- To stay hydrated. When I'm hydrated I have lots more energy!
- To maintain my skin's elasticity. This past year was the first time I uttered the words "wrinkle cream" with regard to myself. At this point, every bit helps. I'm not getting any younger.
- Aids in digestion. I've always had stomach issues with my sensitive stomach and when I drink water, I always seem to feel healthier. (duh!)
So here is my plan for drinking more water in 2009...
- Keep lemons on hand to add to my water...I love lemonade so this will be a way to trick myself into thinking I'm drinking it.
- Keep track of how many glasses of water I'm drinking today with my Thermos Intak
water bottle. There's a nifty little dial on the side to make it super easy.
- Stock up on flavored waters from Kellogg's Special K. I love the Mixed Berry flavor and they've even protein water too, both are important to a healthy diet.
- Having Kellogg's
flavored water packets in the car so I have them on the go, too.
- Stop ordering sodas at restaurants (on the rare occasion we go out) and at other people's houses. Hopefully by the end of 2009 my first instinct will be to say, "I'll have a water, please!"

What are your strategies for drinking more water in 2009? Share your plans here in the comments and you can win a "Drink More Water" gift basket from Kellogg's including.

This basket will include Kellogg’s newest fortified waters: Special K2O Protein Water, Special K2O Protein Water Mix and All-Bran Fiber Drink Mix. It will also feature some other small, fitness-oriented items.
Congrats MommySnacks on winning the contest!

I need to do this as well. I was great at drinking water when I was pregnant but after the baby was born so went my water drinking reminder. I never tried the special K flavored water, maybe I'll try some at the beginning of the year.

I drink lots of h20, but I am going to take the challenge made by your awsome poster, Jill Koenig, & do just water for 30 days. I use Pepsi as a treat and sometimes prefer it to chocolate - pathetic I know. I think that after a 30 day water flush, cola & other sweetened drinks would just taste too sweet to start back up.
This is my biggest weakness. I think it's also one of the main reasons my skin is bad and why I'm sluggish. I really need hydration and NEVER drink water. *GASP*
I'm working on it though. I have been filling my pitcher up with water so that it will be VERY cold which is the only way I can drink it. I also keep Propel on hand for when I absolutely can't tolerate plain water anymore. I cut down the soda and bought the mini cans for the days that I'm having withdrawals.
I'll definitely be working hard on this next year and will force myself to drink it no matter what!

I am so glad that I have realized a few years ago that Water was so important. I lived on coke, diet coke for years and very little water. I noticed immediately improvements in my overall health by drinking more water. As a Health Coach and passionate about health I tell women all the time who ask me about my health secrets for anti wrinkles etc...and one of them is to make sure to drink plenty of water!!
Part of the Weight Watchers program is to consume more water and I've fallen from the wagon and my pants are letting me know. I resolve to bring a bottle of water to work instead of buying diet soda from the pop machine. I also resolve to drink one full glass of water before I eat anything in the hopes that it will fill me up and hopefully eat less at each meal.
I lay out the number of toothpicks representing the number of bottles I intend to drink that day. Throwing away a toothpick as a bottle of water is consumed.
I'm like you - give me coffee or a soda, and I'll guzzle it all in a few minutes. But a glass of water? Slow going. I'm convinced that it's all psychological. My area has wonderful clean tap water, but I have a hard time drinking it. But hand me a glass of water at a restaurant, or a bottle of water, and I drink much more of it. It makes no sense!
I like the idea of keeping track of how much water you drink with a special bottle, like you mentioned. I also plan on getting a water filter to help me drink more water in 2009. I love those drink mixes too, because it makes it much more appealing to drink water when it has some sort of flavor. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I'll drink a glass of water before I reach for a snack and down the whole thing, then wait 10 minutes and see if I'm still hungry. This should help with my fight the frump goal as well!!

Luckily, I swore off soda a couple of years ago. Now I just need to cut back on the coffee - I find that the more coffee I drink, the less of a taste I have for water.
I have created a log in springpad to help me keep track of how much water I drink everyday. Check it out:
