Having a Cleaner House: Day 10 of 15 Days of New Years Resolutions

I'm figuring out that there's a difference between getting organized and keeping the house clean.  In our house, we're actually pretty organized...it's the consistent everyday cleaning that I personally have a challenge with, unfortunately.  My husband is my hero in this department because he regularly does the laundry and is very thorough when it comes to cleaning the kitchen.  However, I know that I could be pitching in more around the house.  With blogging, Wishpot, and MomForce...plus building my own personal brand, I feel like I never have time to do any cleaning around the house.  This has to change.  And if it means going old school, then so be it.  What do I mean by old school?  I mean having a system that does not require emails or anything else online to get me to clean my house.  Why?  Because there are too many other things popping up on email or taking up tabs in my browser that it makes it so easy for me to put the cleaning-related reminders out of sight.  This of course, causes them to be out of mind and, well, you can probably guess what that leads to.

So my next experiment with getting and keeping my house clean?  The S.H.E. (Sidetracked Home Executive) She's Organized System at Organized Home.  And yes, I'm going to rock it old school with the 3x5 cards and the file box.  I might even get all crafty and decorate the filebox, too. {Gasp!}  One of the original founders also recently launched The Brat Factor, same ideas but more interactive approach to get started...I'm checking that out too.

Also, recently Bissell sent me a Flip-It Select to try since I have hardwood floors in my house and I have to say, it's awesome!  I was using Swiffer Wet-Jet before and well, I wasn't using it as much as I should because I had to sweep first then do the Wet Jet and if I missed a spot sweeping it ended up being wet dust and debris.  Ew!  With the Flip It! Select, I don't have those issues anymore and cleaning my floors is a cinch!  The folks at Bissell have been generous with me and have offered a Bissell "Green" Little Green to give away here at Jessica Knows.   What makes it "Green"?  The sustainable design.

Bissell's own cleaning and organizing expert, Donna Smallin gives the following advice:
It may seem crazy, but the more often you clean, the less time you spend overall. For example, if you wipe down the bathroom sink and counter every day, you never have to scrub away dried on toothpaste and other gunk. Similarly, when you clean up carpet spills immediately with a product like the Bissell Green Little Green, the spill won’t set into a stain.

Donna Smallin is the author of The One-Minute Cleaner and owner of the website Unclutter.

So what do you have to do to win the "Green" Little Green from Bissell?  Each of the following will earn you on entry:

1.  Share your cleaning goals for the New Year and give your best cleaning tip in the comments section.

2. Take a photo of the messiest room in your house and link to it.  Tell us why the "Green" Little Green would help with this mess.

3. Tweet about this post and winning the "Green" Little Green.

I would have a humongous yard sale. I'm trying to get the courage to link to a pic of the messiest room in my house. The babies room, totally not his fault, we also use it as a spillover room. We have entirely too much stuff.

This year the goal is to get the kids to help I and my wife with the cleaning. We really need to get them more involved in the day to day running of our home. They also could stand a lesson in "you messed it up, you clean it up."

OK, time for my picture:

This is the living room, which is not the messiest room - that would be the attic full of boxes that I mentioned earlier, but alas, I don't think the Bissell can help me get rid of boxes - LOL! No, I chose the living room because this is the room that the "Green" Little Green would help most in. This would help my dingy doormat and would be good for cleaning the couch, not to mention our car interiors and other upholstery. As you can see, I have hardwood floors, but Grandma has all white carpets and I know she would love to use this to help keep them fresh and clean. Thanks so much!

I posted earlier today about this, its so hard to keep a clean house, at least for me...working such long hours, makes the house work so much less fun!

My cleaning goal for the new year is to not stress over it & spend less time doing it and more time enjoying life. There have been time I feel as if that is all I do. I will try to be satified with CLEAN & realize that tidy will not always be so.

This is a picture of the family room after it's been hit with the "Thomas" tornado. The Little Green would really help in here - even though I have spill proof sippies, we still have lots of spills. But hey! what fun would life be without a little mess.

My husband and kids are like hurricanes around here. Hubby is at about a category 5 and the kids collectively about a 2 and they blow through my house daily. I cannot keep up with the aftermath. I am thankful hubby finally stepped up and admitted he is horrible and I hope he will work on changing this in the new year.

We have a four and a half month old and I feel like I am just now starting to get a little bit back in the groove. My goal is each week in January, focus on decluttering one room in the house.
After that is done, each day during the week, designate one room in the house to fully clean, or if it's not needed, do a quick clean.
This is a great giveaway!
