Before I get in to today's New Years Resolution, I wanted to give those that want to raise the stakes and really put their money where their mouth is an opportunity to do so.  Check out PledgeHammer.  This easy to use and nifty tool let's you make a pledge and if you don't follow through, you're ponying up to charity.  If you decide to use PledgeHammer and need an idea for a charity, feel free to invest through the Social Media Moms Group on Kiva (or even if you don't use Pledgehammer, we welcome you with open arms!).

If only my present lust for learning was a strong when I was in college.  Back then it was all about socializing and then cramming for tests and writing papers at the last minute.  But now?  I'm always on the lookout for new skills to learn, new things to try.  So for 2009, I hope to continue to learn new things and pursue more projects that will enrich my life, my career, and my well-being.

Some options I am currently considering:

  • Learn more about SEO.  I've got the general gist and I'm showing up high in the search engines for a lot of key words but I really want to get to the heart of the analytics and ramp up my own SEO skills in 2009.  I'll be checking into SEOmoz.org and SEOBook to kick it off! (I've been told SEOBook is great to start with so I'm going to take the advice I got from Twitter and begin there).

  • You know that Beastie Boys song "She's Crafty"?  I know it was in a different context, but I'm so not crafty.  I'm hoping to get inspired and some instruction from You Can Make This and share my creations on my blog for all to laugh at admire.

  • I also want to be more conscious of the environment and buy more green products and practice more eco-friendly habits.  I've subscribed to Ideal Bite to get tips every day.

What do you want to learn in 2009?  If you want to learn more about marketing your small business or building your blog into a brand...check out my uber affordable Inner Circle program.

Share your aspirations for pursuing and learning new things in the comments...let's all help each other make it happen!

Like most women who have an addiction to handbags, I have an apron addiction. haha I would definitely start with those first. They look slightly easier than the other projects so it might actually help me gain confidence that I can actually make those other things.

I'm no Martha Stuart (or her assistants) so I'd go with a craftiness level of 7. I can't sew, knit, or crochet. But I can create some pretty crazy things if you give me some glue. haha

Cool giveaway!

I love to make some Simple and Chic handbags. If I can ever get my sewing machine back from my daughter. Need to get hers fixed.

One of my aspirations for the New Year is to start sewing, just got a brand new sewing machine so this is timely! I think I'd start with the aprons, they are adorable. I'm already daydreaming of the great gifts I could give next Christmas with this pattern set.

I think I'm about a 7 on the crafty scale. It usually doesn't take me too long to catch on to something new. My main problem is that I'm constantly finding new things I want to make and have a lot of unfinished projects around.

SEO is high on my list of things to master this year to, I have no idea what I'm doing in that arena.

I would probably try the apron first. I haven't really sewed since 8th grade home ec class. Usually I buy stuff with the intent of sew and end up giving it to my mom to do. So this would be a great opportunity to develop my skills. My mom & grandma are great at sewing and knitting. I'd rate myself a 5 on the crafty scale.

The apron set definitely! I consider myself very crafty, probably around an eight - but sewing is proving to much more of a challenge than I ever imagined, my sewing craftability would have to come in at a two.

My aspirations? Create another stream of income, figure out how to incorporate everything that I want to be when I grow up into a viable "thing", get fit.

The reversible skirt would be fun to try. I am a scrapbooker but that is the only craft I can do..so I am a 3 in crafting.
I want to learn more about branding, SEO, and how to create some income from my passions.

I am learning some great tips already in your inner circle. Thank you. But yes 2009 for me is all about learning to take by blog, writing, website Ecommerce business to a new level. SEO for sure. I have lots to learn but so excited. Have been searching some SEO's experts on twitter and my other contacts for some help.

Though I did look at the site and see the crafting opportunities range beyond sewing, I'd love to make those aprons with my kids. I'm thinking, 4-H project mastered, reasons to shop for fun fabrics with my daughters, maybe learn to embroider a design or two, could sell 'em at the local craft market. Yup, all this would count as homeschool lessons, too.

I'd love to learn how to use audio and video on my blog. It looks so exciting to try but daunting.
I'd love to learn more about the world of boys from a science perspective and discuss the ideas with other moms.

I'd try the bucket hat, and I'm about a 2 on the crafty scale!
