Daily Grommet is a Deal-a-Day for Moms Launching Soon

Daily Grommet, launching soon, is a deal-a-day company (think woot.com).  What so fab about it?  The products are geared toward moms and sold by small entrepreneurs.

This cool new site is all about product discovery, while providing distribution channel to those that might not otherwise have the same kind of reach.  Moms within existing passionate online communities will find that Daily Grommet is a fun and revolutionary way to discover new products.

By offering a one product a day discovery to moms, Daily Grommet hopes to leverage:

  • People's love of uncovering fresh finds and being the first to be in possession of products that haven't hit the big time yet.

  • Moms' preference of authentic learning through real people, friends, and trusted sources, and to make recommendations of their own.

  • The power of online communities to create viral buzz and lift a product or news story from obscurity to something meaningful.

Each product of the day -- sourced through the community and selected by Grommet -- is presented in a very clean and simple format:

  • A photo.

  • A low cost, in-house video that will not only present the product but tell a story.

  • Storytelling will answer the following questions: Why does this product matter? Who invented or designed it? Why?  Who recommended it? Why?

  • A discussion board for users and suppliers. Once product presentation goes live at noon each day, a discussion board will open in which the supplier and/or person suggesting the product  will participate live.  People can comment on the product, ask questions, and make suggestions.

  • Easy as pie "Share this" and "Buy this" tools.

Just like Woot.com, Daily Grommet will sell the product for no more than 24 hours, or sooner if it is sold out.   Beyond the first day's sale, prior Grommets will be searchable in a back catalog, with clear link access to the suppliers.

Oh, and mommy bloggers, you're in for treat.  The Daily Grommet will have monetized widgets.  Sweet!

The website, www.onegoodie.com is a similar concept, but its better since its focus is on mommies AND foodies! Every product that is offered is innovative and they are even discounted! I have ordered several time from www.onegoodie.com since its launch and I am extremely impressed by their customer service and the quality of the products.

Yes, it is definitely a cool idea- but not a new one!
There is already a website that caters to the Mommy and even the Foodie- all in one place. At Onegoodie.com, you can find gourmet eats and mommy treats- in just the same way the Daily Grommet is selling their 'new' idea.
Fabulous, yes- revolutionary-no.
Check out the daily deals at Onegoodie.com-
an already existing company worth looking at!
You won't be disappointed!

I receive amazing daily emails from OneGoodie a newsletter that is already doing all of this in a fantastic way while focusing on mommies and foodies! Everything's discounted and there is new stuff everyday that is only avail for 24 hours. They have adorable editorial that makes it more fun to check out everyday!

Interesting. I just checked out www.onegoodie.com and while the products are fabulous there are a few differences. From what I understand, and Daily Grommet has not launched yet so I'll have to wait and see, is that the Daily Grommet will be more story-driven vs. price-driven. Meaning that the founders will share the story behind the product and WHY they chose to feature it. In my opinion, this is the revolutionary aspect to Daily Grommet. At www.wishpot.com I work with a lot of entrepreneurs who are launching ideas, products, and services, too. Their products are amazing, but it is their story that makes me feel connected to the product.
Daily Grommet won't just be offering great products for savvy shoppers (that happen to be moms) but the story behind them as well.

I love this, and I totally agree that it's different than onegoodie. Plus, I heart that there's a mom behind it, and love to promote them and their great ideas whenever possible!

Hi Jessica, This is Jules, founder of Daily Grommet. Thanks for the post! Yes, you do understand our idea really well. There is indeed a useful role for deal a day sites, but it's not the one we are filling. We do find one good thing a day, and save moms time. And we hope that checking out the Daily Grommet will be really fun. (We call it a ten second adventure, almost like a coffee break.) But it's not so much about selling the products as telling their stories. I used to be a product designer and love how learning the story of the use or creation of a product can enrich the whole experience of owning it. Why does the product matter? Why do people love it? We hope people who come to our site will do TONS of sharing of the stories and live blog with our suppliers because we really want to see these interesting products from little-guy companies get well known and to give the product manufacturers feedback on what women think.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure Onegoodie.com DOES tell the story of why they chose a particular product and the owners are obviously moms too...just really plugged-in moms.
The discount just makes it extra good. I bought The Jimmies CD through them (I had never heard of them before and now I feel like they're everywhere...so I was TOTALLY the cool mom first!)

Sounds like a fun site! I am a fan of One Goodie mentioned above as well as some other deal a day websites. They all have a little bit different angle and are equally fun. Can't wait to see Daily Grommet when they launch!
