Day 8 of 15 Days of Work/Life Balance: C'mon Get Happy (and Inspired)
One of the biggest reasons I want to achieve work/life balance is to lower my stress levels. The more my work/life balance is out of whack...well, the more stressed I get. And my stress level affects all aspects of my life around me.
In other words?
When mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! (I know someone coined the phrase but I have no idea who to credit it with, if you know, please fill me in.)
So I'm constantly on the lookout for inspiration in all forms. Music, books, and online tools are all examples of media that provides inspiration.
One such tool is the site Happier.com. The name is pretty self-explanatory but I've found it very useful for looking within myself and exploring strategies to increase my happiness and decrease my stress level. With assessments like the Authentic Happiness Index and the Optimism test along with exercises to control negative thoughts and use your strengths in a new way, there's something for everyone.
Check out this quick and insightful quiz that will help you gauge your level of happiness:
How'd you do on the quiz?

My result for the little poll above rated me as "Searching for Happiness". I did sign up for Happiness.com. I took the first test and my results came back as very low overall happiness. No surprised to me, but an interesting thing I discovered was that when I wasn't 100% certain between 2 choices, I would choose the more optimistic choice only because it fits more in the "norm" of what is considered acceptable. Mainly because I get tired of not being accepted so why bother being real.
I like the "active & constructive responding" section and I am going to dive deeper into it. Especially for work, I guess I am more passive-aggessive than I thought!
You are so right about balance. A clean house, a healthy diet, exercise, recreation, all those things count - not only for your level of happiness, but your level of sanity!. And I think we all agree about the mama qupte. I don't know who said it either, and I've been guilty of using it.
I'm not going to take the test. It might tell me I'm not as happy as I think I am, and then I'll get depressed - but I will pass it on to my readers.
