The Green Effect Contest: Win $20,000 toward your Green Dream
Last week, I wrote about doing little things to make a difference for our environment. I invited my readers to share what they do in their home to be more eco-friendly for a chance to win a $100.
From a random drawing, the winner of the $100 is Baba from Baba's Farm Life. Her tip for going green?
We grow a garden each year and can our produce, we use tote bags at the store, compost, raise chickens and goats, plant trees every where we can, recycle metal into art, upcycle clothing or old blankets into other items, make our own gift cards and often our own gifts, use energy saving light bulbs, and plan on making the stone house an energy saving home.
Congratulations Baba on winning the $100! I will be reaching out to you to arrange delivery of your prize.
There were some great ideas about how one can be more eco-friendly around the house. Now I'm going to share with you how you can enter to win $20,000 for your best idea about going green for your community, your town, or perhaps the whole world!
The contest? It's all about the Green Effect:
SunChips® brand and National Geographic believe in the power of the Green Effect. If each of us takes one small step to make our community greener, we can create big change for our planet. To get the movement started, they're awarding $20,000 grants to five people or groups—such as a Scout troop, green club, parents organization, or church group—with compelling ideas for green change.
Submit your green idea between April 22 and June 8, 2009. On July 7, 2009, they'll post ten finalists, chosen by a panel of judges against the judging criteria outlined in the Official Rules. Each of the ten finalists will receive a Flip video camera.
The ten finalists' entries will be rejudged by a new judge panel and online voters. Online voters will choose one winner, and a panel of judges will pick the remaining four. The five best ideas will receive $20,000 to help make them happen. They will also be profiled in National Geographic magazine, and the winners will travel to Washington, D.C., (ahem, my home town!) to share their projects with environmental leaders.
Now I know how savvy and smart my readers are so I'm counting on you to enter and make me proud! Can you imagine what you could do with $20,000 to make our world more environmentally friendly!
Let me know if you decide to enter and in the meantime, I wish you the best of luck!
