My Favorite Part of the Day
These days my life seems to be moving a million miles an hour.
My family is acclimating to living on the West Coast, I'm midway through my second month in my new job, it's looking like I'll be traveling a lot this fall...and well, it's a lot. But it's all great and I'm totally grateful for it.
While this post is inspired by my favorite part of my day...I have to give props to Kim Moldofsky of Hormone Colored Days for planting the seed. You see, she's participating in an inspiring program called the gratitude challenge. And after I saw her tweets and read her posts, I couldn't NOT write about what I'm grateful for.
So, without further ado, instead of sharing my thoughts on marketing or offering my commentary on the state of the blogosphere, I thought I'd get a little personal.
My favorite part of the day is the half hour between 8:20am-8:50am PST on weekday mornings.
In other words, yes, my favorite part of the day is my commute to work.
At 8:20am I leave the house, just kissed by my husband, fresh coffee in one hand and my son's hand in the other. As soon as were both buckled in and I turn on the car, we start rocking out to whatever song happens to be on the 90's channel on Sirius radio.
Before I pull out of the driveway, I take one more look back and share a smile with my son. On our way to his school, I tell him how proud I am of him and how I can't wait to see him when I get home. Sometimes he ends up singing to me and I turn the radio down.
It's about a five minute drive to his school. Within seconds, we're opening the front door. I don't know what it is but there's something about an almost four year old swing his Scooby Doo lunchbox with an eager gait and nothing but great expectations for the day.
I can't help but approach the day ahead with that same energy. I keep it with me throughout the day.
Once he's at school, I start the 20 minute commute to work. I crank up the music and even if I know I've got deadlines to meet and meetings to atttend, this alone time with cheesy 90's music gets me pumped.
I sing at the top of my lungs (often off key), bop my head, and could care less if the other commuters look at me funny.
I'm grateful for this magical half hour each morning when I get to bond with my son before starting my day and letting whatever music I hear on the radio become the soundtrack for the next 9-10 hours until I get home that evening.
If you're on Twitter, I often tweet the song that pumped me up the most once I get to the office.
What is your favorite part of the day?
